competition 1. prize, 2023

The 4th Quadrant development is the long-awaited completion of Antonin Engel’s Masterplan for Vítězné Náměstí. Our proposal connects to its historical meaning. At the same time, it opens up new possibilities for a diversified public realm attracting a variety of residents, users and visitors.
The proposal introduces a collage of shapes and spaces connected through a permeable plinth, embodying the idea of shared democratic space. With contrasting qualities, a lively urban square sits at the core of the development, while a verdant green oasis in the form of a microforest offers a calmer space for residents and visitors.

Square
The urban square functions as a sort of social condenser – extending the varied interior uses out into the public space. An active transport hub, a new campus building, brewery, residential, commercial and office units as well as a new cultural centre all set the stage for diverse interactions.

Microforest
The semi-private micoforest offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city. Connected with the natural soil and equipped with a diverse selection of vegetation and permeable materials, this green core plays an important role as a component of green blue infrastructure for the site.
