High above the Saale valley lies the historic spa gardens of Bad Dürrenberg, the venue for the fifth Saxony-Anhalt State Garden Show. The backbone of the park is the impressive historic graduation works, the longest continuous and still functioning graduation works in Europe. The horticultural show is therefore dedicated to salt and salt production. There is a salt landscape, a graduation bench, white furniture... Healing brine mist pervades the grounds.
The historic park and the neighbouring Saale slopes were transformed into a modern, open and inviting recreational area. The historical grounds were carefully restored and at the same time supplemented with contemporary elements. The garden show site extends across the historic spa gardens, down the Saale slope and into the floodplain. Here, the old tradition of fruit and wine growing has been revitalised.
