Freiberg, Saxony, 2020
The Schlossplatzquartier is part of the inner-city campus of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The approximately 500 square metre courtyard, which is accessible via a passage from Prüfergasse, connects the newly built auditorium centre with two other university buildings.

On the west side of the courtyard, a small lounge area with a bench and a planter was created. On sunny days, the small-leaved cord tree and the water basin bring a Mediterranean flair to Freiberg's city centre and make the courtyard a small oasis in the dense old town structure.
Due to the inner-city location with its winding and dense development, various constraints arose (pipes, house connections, storage sewers...), to which attempts were made to react with creative solutions. For example, the unwelcome rubbish containers disappear behind a screen wall specially designed for the site, to which a display board showing the various campus locations is attached. Glass blocks in the wall refer to the site's mineralogical tradition.
The uniform paving takes up the differences in level, and mediates between the different areas.
