Post-mining landscape, Lauchhammer

The region Lauchhammer is characterized by a decade-long predominance of surface coal mining industries. Scattered settlements, former industrial sites and numerous artificial lakes are shaping the city and it’s surroundings. In collaboration with the Förderverein Bergbaufolgelandschaft (post- surface mining landscape association) and based on an analysis of the historic cultural landscape, natural settings and land use, concepts for the further development of land planning goals for a post-surface mining landscape have been developed. The concept of Lauchhammer’s green core is attempting to give a new identity to the region. In collaboration with the redevelopment agency LMBV detailed concepts for certain flooded former surface mines have been developed. For several future projects of the IBA Fürst-Pückler-Land site conditions have been studied.
