Design of open spaces and playground equipment
Berlin, 2011
The new small municipal park in Berlin-Friedrichshain offers space for various activities and all age groups. A “Windenwurm” (winding worm) which is bench, reclining area, picnic table and stage at the same time was installed in front of existing planting opposite of the school. Roughly cut wooden elements of different sizes and hues follow the path through the quarter as a multifunctional feature. The extension of the playground captures the existing “penguin-playgrounds” theme and creates a polar landscape, in which the race of Scott and Amundsen to the South Pole can be reenacted. Scattered ice floes become climbable objects and slides. A coasting slide serves as a dashing way of transport.
