Georg-Treu-Platz, Dresden

Redevelopment and restructuring of the historic open space

The square is located in a highly sensitive urban area of Dresden’s city centre. It connects the “Brühlsche Terasse” with the Neumarkt-area and gains new importance as an open space through the conversion of the “Albertinum”. At the same time it shows a historical identity of its own as an urban space with decorative qualities. The main idea of the restructuring is to meet the new functional requirements of the open space and at the same time preserve the historical importance of the place. The goal is to create an “urban jewel” within the townscape of Dresden. Significant historical characteristics of the spaces structure are visibly retained. The surrounding pavement with its still existing kerb represents the historic border, whereas the area in between is designed as a contemporary open space on an accessible level.
