The new technical town hall is the first of three structures to be built in several stages around the former Ferdinandplatz. In the centre of the new quarter, the new Ferdinandplatz will be a multifunctional urban space, at the same time a representative forecourt, an agora for the citizens of Dresden and part of the busy city life around Prager Straße. With numerous scattered trees of different species, the quarter receives a strong green motif that connects the square and adjacent spaces. A large walk-in-fountain, ribbon-like seating elements around a green lounge as well as sitting and standing loops invite people to linger and interact.
The entire area is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. Wide walking areas made of natural stone slabs run in front of the buildings.
Under the surface, storage volumes collect rainwater to be infiltrated or used for watering the green areas and trees.
