Erlangen, 2019
The A73 motorway (Frankenschnellweg) running through Erlangen in a north-south direction acts as a significant barrier, separating districts and contributing to high noise levels, particulate matter, and nitrogen dioxide pollution in nearby residential areas. An enclosure is being considered as a forward-looking solution to these issues, which involves creating a new city park on top of the motorway. This "green infrastructure" aims to improve the residential and living conditions by providing attractive green and open spaces for play and recreation. The large-scale urban repair project will establish new pathways and green connections, making the surrounding areas more desirable residential locations.
