Open space is always in-between. Between north and south, yesterday and tomorrow, function and shape. Each design for urban space or landscape has to deal with the site’s specific character, has to envision future space. Deriving from this paradigm a new local identity is being defined during the design process. The design is developed within a spatial, chronological and material context. The formal language of surfaces, plants, functional elements and details is derived from the design's motif.

    Green Urban Infrastructure: RLA at the GPSC City Academy in Samarkand

    RLA participates in the City Academy organized by the Global Platform for Sustainable Cities (GPSC) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from 1 to 3 June 2026. Today, we present a new handbook on green infrastructure planning and investment, which we are currently developing with the GPSC, building upon our Green Infrastructure Plan for Panyu, China. Engaging in a fruitful dialogue with official representatives and experts from around the world, we look forward to further advancing networked approaches to open-space planning.

    “Golden Design Award” for our Hengqing Garden at the Hong Kong Flower Show

    In the shape of an artistic miniature, our garden installation recreates the island landscape of the Pearl River Delta. The fishing nets stretched across the garden reflect the garden’s theme: “Weaving Dreams”.

    ‘Global Habitat Design Award’ for green corridor on the Huayuantou River, Jincheng, China

    The large-scale project, which was realised over a period of 14 years on the basis of our master plan in the north-east of the city of Jincheng (Shanxi province), transforms the riverbed of the Huayuantou River into a continuous, landscaped water and park system based on the principles of the sponge city and combines ecological functions with a diverse, natural leisure landscape.

    International award for the Cogiteon Science Centre in Krakow, Poland

    The Cogiteon Science Centre in Krakow, Poland, designed in collaboration with heinlewischer architects, recently received the prestigious International Award from the European Centre for Architecture, Art Design and Urban Studies (Athens/Dublin). A particular highlight of the project is the large accessible green roof. We are very honoured and would like to thank our partners for the excellent cooperation.
